CalMac Launch Staff Uniform Portal with Big Red Digital

During the past 12 months, Big Red Digital are delighted to have been working in partnership with Scotland's largest and most widely recognised ferry operator, Caledonian MacBrayne. Working in conjunction with CalMac's forward thinking procurement team and their chosen uniform supplier, IOMA, we were able to tailor our 'Smart Red' ordering portal software specifically to suit CalMac's needs and they now have their own system in place with ongoing support from Big Red's technical team.

Following the launch of the new platform, CalMac's staff can now login and order their own uniform items - within pre-set allowances - directly from the supplier! This not only streamlines the whole ordering process for CalMac staff, it saves considerable administration time and provides tighter control over annual uniform budget and spend. Smart Red 'talks' to IOMA's chosen ERP system, passing order and product information directly for quick fulfilment.

Following the successful roll-out of the new platform, CalMac's Procurement Manager, Mike Belton described the challenge, “CalMac has a large workforce which is spread across the west coast of Scotland and operate in some very remote locations. Staff working across our network need to order their uniform from our uniform provider IOMA and this was mainly achieved by the use of a paper based manual system. Although this paper based system was used for a number of years the process was slow, cumbersome and very time consuming to administer.”

CalMac's new Smart Red platform was mobilised last month and already the signs are that is being hailed a huge success for all involved. We were delighted to receive an update from Mike this week, “For CalMac the use of the Smart Red portal provided by Big Red Digital has seen many advantages with employees being able to self approve their orders when within their defined allowances through to a simple but effective approval route for orders that exceed their overall allowances. Although we are still within the mobilisation phase, the help provided by Big Red has been outstanding with changes made within hours of a request being made and support every step of the way. I look forward to the next phase where we can start to look at the reporting system where we hope to be able to identify savings on our uniform budget over the years to come.”
